Chevy exhausts that help cars perform better

As in every vehicles, a Chevy relies on an efficient exhaust system to perform effectively. Composed of a network of pipes and tubes, the Chevy exhaust carries burnt gases from the internal combustion engine to the rear end of the car where they are emitted into the atmosphere. Depending on the overall system design of the Chevy exhaust, gases may flow through a turbocharger for added engine power, a catalytic converter for reduced noxious content, and/or a muffler for decreased emission noise.

A Chevy exhaust system is composed of several interconnected parts that work in unison to get the job done. The manifold installed on the Chevy exhaust system is a central holding bay designed to collect the exhaust gas from multiple cylinders and combine them into a single pipe. It is usually made of cast iron in factory-issued cars. A header, on the other hand, is a type of an enhanced Chevy exhaust manifold that has been engineered for added performance.

Types of Chevy exhaust range from performance-rated turbo-back system to the fuel-efficient and fumes-reducing cat-back system. Called the header-back, these systems alter the part of the Chevy exhaust system that comprises the outlet of the header all the way to the final vent that leads into the open air. These Chevy exhaust components are generally produced as aftermarket performance systems for cars without turbochargers.

The turbo-back pertains to the portion of the Chevy exhaust from the outlet of a turbocharger to the final vent. Most Chevy exhausts with turbo-back and header-back systems serve as a substitute for standard catalytic converters and offer less flow restriction. The cat-back system includes the pipe from the converter to the muffler, the muffler itself, and the final length of exhaust pipe. This setup typically uses larger diameter pipes compared to stock models. Finally, there is the tip which covers the end of the final length of exhaust pipe where it vents into the open air. The tip is usually the largest pipe in the Chevy exhaust system and is oftentimes chromed to prevent rusting and to enhance the vehicle's look.
