Forcing William C. Durant out of General Motors in 1910 may have been the best thing that happened to him. For this triggered the beginning of Chevrolet. Chevy, as most people call it, was found by Durant and Swedish race car driver Louis Chevrolet. Durant wanted to use Louis Chevrolet's designs to rebuild his own reputation as a force in the automobile industry. But prior to this , both founders have already worked together on other projects. This include Chevrolet driving some vehicles in promotional races.

Through the years, Chevy became known for producing high-quality vehicles. But these vehicles did not just come out of nowhere, a lot of work was allotted to each design to make sure they would perform well. To insure top of the line vehicle, passenger safety was highly considered. One component that helps in vehicle safety is the Chevy bumper. Bumpers are very helpful in case of collisions. A Chevy bumper is designed to absorb and deliver the momentum when a vehicle encounters accidents.

Bumpers were originally made of heavy steel. In later years they, have been constructed with rubber, plastic, or painted light metal leaving them susceptible to damage from even minimal contact. A Chevy bumper is installed on the front and rear part of the vehicle.

Bumpers used to be a little more than a strap or flat iron. Later on they were enhanced into chromed bumpers, especially in the 1960's. In the early 1970's, self repairing bumpers were introduced and after a while they became mandatory. Towards the end of the 1980's the self repairing bumpers went out of style and was replaced with fiberglass bumpers. These fiberglass bumpers were lighter but were not very reliable since they crack easily.

Aside from their safety aspect, a Chevy bumper also adds appeal to any vehicle. The market offers various design and style of bumpers. At times, they are even customized to suit a motorist's preference.
